Jersey Cricket appoints Safeguarding Lead

Jersey Cricket has appointed a new non-executive director to take on a lead role in safeguarding across the organisation.

James Kent brings extensive experience in governance, sport, and organisational leadership, with a strong track record in safeguarding. Jersey Cricket said his appointment underlines the organisation’s commitment to the welfare and protection of everyone involved in the game – from juniors to elite players, as well as volunteers, coaches, and staff.

In his new role, Mr Kent will work with the board and staff to strengthen safeguarding policies, promote best practice, and ensure the organisation’s strategy puts player safety and wellbeing front and centre. He will also support education and awareness initiatives to help create a safe, inclusive environment for all.

Board chair John Harris said: “We’re pleased to welcome James as our new Non-Executive Director with responsibility for safeguarding. His expertise will help Jersey Cricket maintain the highest standards of safety and protection for all players, volunteers, and members. Safeguarding is fundamental to everything we do, and James’ appointment reinforces our commitment to a safe and supportive cricketing community.”

Mr Kent said he was “delighted to be joining Jersey Cricket at such an exciting time. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and I look forward to working with people across the game to build on the strong foundations already in place and ensure everyone can enjoy cricket in a safe and welcoming environment,” he added.

Jersey Cricket said the appointment is the latest step in efforts to strengthen governance, encourage participation at all levels, and uphold the values of the game both on and off the field.
